Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-05-26.
These terms govern your use of repocritics.com and the official RepoCritics browser extension (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service.
Eligibility
You must be at least the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction to create an account. Accounts are tied to a verified GitHub identity.
Your content
- You own what you write. By posting a review, wiki edit, or comment you grant RepoCritics a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute that content as part of the Service.
- Published content is licensed to the public under CC-BY-SA 4.0. You retain copyright; everyone else may reuse with attribution and share-alike.
- You are responsible for the content you post. Do not publish defamation, harassment, doxxing, malware, or material you do not have the right to share.
Reviews must be honest
RepoCritics exists to give working engineers an honest read on open-source libraries. The following are grounds for review removal and account suspension:
- Astroturfing, vote brigading, or sockpuppet accounts.
- Paid promotion of a repo without disclosed sponsorship — this is not a paid promotion platform.
- Coordinated negative campaigns against a competitor's repo.
- Reviewing a repo you authored or were directly paid to develop, without disclosure.
Critic status
Critic status is granted by the editorial board based on demonstrated OSS contribution and at least two peer-accepted reviews. The board may revoke critic status if review quality declines or community-norms are breached.
Acceptable use
- Do not scrape, mirror, or republish the Service at scale without permission.
- Do not attempt to break authentication, escalate privileges, or DOS the API.
- Do not impersonate other users.
- Reasonable API use is free and welcome. Heavy or automated use should contact api@repocritics.com.
The browser extension
The extension is provided as-is. It only reads the URL of the active GitHub tab and fetches public score data from repocritics.com. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
Disclaimers
Scores and reviews are advisory. We make no warranty about the fitness, security, or maintenance status of any repository. Do your own evaluation before depending on any open-source library in production.
The Service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, RepoCritics disclaims all warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, RepoCritics shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising out of your use of the Service.
Termination
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or applicable law, with notice where practical.
Changes
We may update these terms; material changes will be announced in the footer. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
